Rites

The Sisterhood presents several Rites each year, each one to celebrate and honor the changes a woman encounters during her lifetime. In order to make these events the intense, individual, memorable experiences that they are we tailor each year's rite based on the women that sign up. All of these rites take months to prepare, so we ask that you register long before the event. To begin the registration process for any of our events send an e-mail to candidates@girlsmoonrite.org

The Moonrite

The first Rite of the Sisterhood was created more than 14 years ago to encourage, prepare, and welcome the newest maidens on the path to womanhood. It is an all-night trial for young women who have reached menarche and their mothers (or other adult female sponsors). We've watched over as more than thirty girls stepped through womanhood's door during this intense and spiritually diverse rite of passage, and we have welcomed more than sixty Amazon Warriors into the sacred Red Tent over the last 12 years.

When?

The 2010 Beltania Pagan Music Festival!

In order to qualify for candidacy for the Moonrite a girl must:

  • She must have reached menarche and be under 18.
  • She and an adult woman sponsor (mother, sister, aunt - anyone over 18 who will continue to be an important part of the girl's life!) must be attending the event (Beltania) this year and be available on Friday night through Saturday morning.
  • She must be willing to write a paragraph or two stating why she believes she's ready for this Rite of Passage and explaining the changes that she is going through as a young woman.

The Amazon Rite

Providing the Moonrite is often an adventure that is just as challenging, spiritual, and rewarding as being a candidate. Over the years we have created so many traditions and rituals that the experience of being an Amazon Warrior is a Rite of its own, one that reconnects us to our own previous Rites and renews our bonds of Sisterhood. It’s a looong, cold night of singing, dancing, sharing, laughing, and working hard to represent the strength and power of being a woman to our newest sisters.

When?

The 2010 Beltania Pagan Music Festival, during the traditional Moonrite.

In order to be an Amazon Warrior a girl must:

  • She have been through a previous rite of the Sisterhood.
  • She must be attending the event (Beltania) this year and be available on Friday night through Saturday morning.

Warrior Women

"Tonight we explore the different phases of womanhood that each and every woman will be throughout her lifetime, and we focus on an aspect that is sometimes forgotten in today's society – the warrior woman who shines through all of these faces."

The Women Warriors Rite is a 4-5 hour rite of passage facilitated by the Guardians of the Amazon Sisterhood. It's an intense, interactive experience that follows a new branch of the Moonrite path. Mothers, Maidens, and Crones of all abilities and paths are invited to join us for a night of mystery, laughter, power, and adventure.

When?

Although we plan on continuing this tradition in the future, the Warrior Women Rite does not currently have any set dates. Please contact Aly at amazons@girlsmoonrite.org for more information regarding this rite of passage.

In order to qualify for candidacy for the Warrior Women Rite a woman must:

  • She must be over 18 years old.
  • She must be willing to write a short passage explaining why she believes she is ready to face the Warrior Woman within herself and what she expects from this Rite.
